Recipe: Healthy Rabbit Treats. Cookies!

I came across homemade rabbit treats today!

Unfortunately my rabbit doesn't take store bought sweets very well and my sister her rabbit is allergic to

pallets/rabbit feed. So why not create my own recipe? :D

These cookies were gladly accepted by both rabbits while mine doesn't normally like banana at all. I call that a succes!

Feel free to add more banana if you don't want your cookies to be crunchy but chewy instead. I prefer them crunchy, it is healthier for rabbit's teeth.

This recipe is super easy to make! You'll need to eyeball the ingredients a bit though.

You'll need

1 ripe banana

hay dust from the bottom of the hay pack or cut your hay in tiny pieces

10cm piece of carrot

organic oats

linseed

Materials

Mixer/grinder

Bowl

Oven

Baking tray and wax paper sheet or aluminium foil

Optional

apple purree (instead of banana)

dried berries

Step 1

First cut all the hay in very small pieces. Set aside. Put oats in the grinder and grind them up until it becomes meal.

Grind the carrot

Step 2

Mash your banana in a large bowl and add some linseed and carrot first. Mix well.

Add oats oats that you didn't grind to add a little bit of texture. Add carrot, linseed and hay too.

Now add your oats meal to the mixture and mix well. It will become one big mass now so feel free to knead with your hands. It is much easier.

Add a tiny bit of water if needed.

Step 3

Form little balls of cookies and flatten a bit. Put on the baking tray.

Bake in the oven for about 20 minutes on 180C and let it cool off in the oven with the door closed for about half an hour. This will dry out the cookies and make them crunchy.

Put them in a nice jar after they have cooled off completely. :)

My rabbits went crazy for them and the kitchen smelled really nice!

Have fun!
